2 Years in Rwanda: My Journey of Peace, Community, and Gratitude

Today marks exactly two years since I embarked on a life-changing journey by becoming a permanent resident of Rwanda. Every time I step outside and breathe in the clean, fresh air of Kigali, I'm filled with gratitude for the peace, the sense of community, and the privilege to live life at my own pace.

Moving to Kigali was more than just relocating; it was about finding a place where I could truly belong. The city’s tranquil atmosphere and the warmth of its people have made it easy to call this place home. The past two years have been nothing short of incredible, offering me experiences and lessons that have enriched my life beyond measure.

Lessons Learned Along the Way

In my time here, I've come to appreciate several key aspects that make Rwanda stand out. These lessons have not only deepened my respect for this nation but have also offered insights into how a society can thrive.

1. Visionary and Conscientious Leadership

One of the most striking observations is the country's dedicated leadership. Rwanda's government exhibits a clear vision for its people, reflected in its social and economic policies. Initiatives like social housing and subsidized healthcare demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of life for all residents. The focus on infrastructural development and meticulous maintenance showcases a model of governance that prioritizes sustainable progress.

2. The Power of Active Citizenship

The synergy between the government and its citizens is palpable. Rwandans actively cooperate with their leaders, showing a collective passion for nation-building. This is evident in how they engage with public services and fulfill their civic responsibilities. I've been particularly impressed by institutions like Rwanda Immigration, the Rwanda National Police, and the Rwanda Revenue Authority.

My interactions with them have always been marked by professionalism and respect, devoid of favoritism or corruption. Coming from an environment where accessing basic services often requires personal connections, this level of efficiency feels almost surreal.

In 2022, I experienced firsthand the excellence of Rwanda's healthcare system when I gave birth at King Faisal Hospital.

My week-long stay there, coupled with subsequent visits, revealed the dedication and efficiency of the healthcare professionals. Their expertise not only ensured a smooth cesarean section but also played a crucial role in safeguarding my health. For their unwavering commitment, I am eternally grateful.

3. Citizen-Focused Law Enforcement

Safety and respect are integral to the Rwandan experience. In the past two years, I haven't encountered or heard of unlawful stop-and-search practices, police brutality, or bribery. Interactions with traffic officers and other law enforcement personnel have been consistently polite and respectful. This approach underscores a societal commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of every individual.

All these factors contribute to a living experience in Kigali that is both peaceful and secure. The environment here has allowed me to relax and tap into my creativity like never before. There's a sense of calm that permeates daily life, providing the perfect backdrop for personal and professional growth.

Perhaps the most fulfilling aspect of my journey has been the opportunity to raise my daughter in such a nurturing environment. Knowing that she can grow up in a quiet, secure, and sustainable setting fills me with immense joy. It's a privilege to offer her a childhood enriched by the values and stability that Rwanda embodies.

Gratitude

As I reflect on these past two years, my heart swells with gratitude. I'm thankful not just for the personal peace I've found but also for being part of a community that values progress, cooperation, and respect. Rwanda has given me more than a place to live; it's offered me a home where I can thrive and contribute meaningfully.

Moving forward, I look to the future with optimism and excitement. I am eager to continue this journey, embracing all the experiences that living in Rwanda has to offer. Here's to many more years of peace, growth, and shared prosperity in this beautiful country I proudly call home.
